If the eyelet is incorrectly placed, the needles can't grab the yarn and make stitches. Maladjusment doesn't happen from ordinary use but dismantling or swapping parts between machines can produce improperly placed eyelets that are either too low or high to do their job. Happily, it's not a very difficult thing to fix.
