Nigerian singer-songwriter and producer Tems has made history by becoming the first African-born woman to co-own a Major League Soccer (MLS) club in the United States. Through her company, The Leading Vibe, she has joined the ownership group of San Diego FC, an expansion team set to debut in the 2025 MLS season. Tems joins a distinguished group of club partners, including actress Issa Rae, World Cup-winning footballer Juan Mata, retired U.S. Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, and MLB All-Star Manny Machado. This partnership reflects her commitment to community engagement and empowering young talent, aligning with San Diego FC’s mission to unite communities through the global game. Tems expressed her excitement about the venture: "Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I am excited to help build something special in San Diego, a city that thrives on diversity and innovation.” San Diego FC Chairman, Sir Mohamed Mansour, welcomed Tems, noting, “Tems is a globally significant artist who will help us to reach new audiences and spread the word about our unique project.” This groundbreaking move highlights Tems’ multifaceted talents and signifies a growing trend of artists investing in sports franchises, bridging the worlds of entertainment and athletics.
