This week we get to run my ALL TIME favourite shop made tool - THE BEAST! This 95mm (3 3/4") bar weighs about 45kg (100lbs) and is nearly three feet long. It's designed specifically for when big jobs need deep boring in the CNC... and that's EXACTLY what this job required. It's not the biggest bar out there, heck it's not even the biggest bar in our shop - but crikey does this thing ABSOLUTELY HAMMER! Our job is to keep rigs running in the field - fixing all the stuff drillers break and creating all the custom gear they need to get the job done! We run two CNC's, manual repair lathes, a few mills and a big green Megabore Lathe we call "THE HULK"... and are constantly having to make weird and wonderful tools for odd (usually oversize) jobs.
