Three days self-supported pack rafting down the Upper Colo River. From sunshine to rain to misty mornings in the gorge, this trip had everything. 30–35 degree days. Wild sandstone walls. Remote country. No reception. We soaked in the land, learned as we went, and connected to something deeper out there. It wasn’t perfect. We underestimated distances and had to push a bigger day. We walked plenty of rapids. Mike lost his drink bottle and his hat. Scratched sunglasses. I broke my paddle. Water got into the air blower and it stopped working. We’re still learning pack rafting — what goes inside the raft, how water weight affects handling, how quickly rapids can appear when you’re not wearing safety gear. But that’s the point. Having a go. Learning. Respecting the river. This video shows the full journey: • Setting up camp and the hammock • Our pack raft setup and mistakes • Small rapids on the final day • The beauty of the Upper Colo • The laughs along the way Shuttle mission included parking my van at one end, Mike’s 4WD at the other, riding the e-bike between Bob Turners and Canoe Creek Track, then driving home. What an adventure. We’ve got a long way to go with pack rafting — but we’re learning every trip. #ColoRiver #UpperColo #Packrafting #AdventureAustralia #Wilderness #SelfSupported
