MillMaster + SmartFill for ball mills; Innovative Control of Grinding Cement

"Electronic ear" is not "electronic ear"! It is time to make clear that there are fundamental differences between electronic fill-level measurement systems for ball or tube mills. Whenever I am confronted by interested customers what are the benefits from the SmartFill™ system from KIMA Process Control to other supplier solutions it comes to one resume: The SmartFill 4…20mA signals, provided separately for chamber 1 and chamber 2 of a mill, SHOULD BE DIRECTLY USED IN THE CONTROL LOOP! Sure, the other systems should provide the same signal 4…20mA for fill level, but are these reliable and permanent available signals? Can you believe your system in that way that your PID controller or advanced control system is directly following this instrument? NO! Re-calibration on a regular basis are necessary and make the availability very poor. If your operator uses your “electronic ear” signal only as indication, how could you integrate this in a closed loop control? The measurement principle makes the difference! Vibration sensors on bearings have the same disadvantage like older and modern microphone systems. All of them fail because there “sound source” is not selective enough. Machines like motors, fans, bucket elevators, and of course, mills in the neighbourhood provide disturbing signals that makes it impossible for these devices to create a highly precise and selective measurement result. SmartFill is the only fill-level measurement using structure born sound. This principle comparable with wide range of frequency vibration is absolute deaf for any kind of noise or acoustic sound. It measures so local depending that the structure born sound of chamber 1 and chamber 2 are completely unaffected from each other. The clear and selective raw signals for both chambers make it possible to get two fill-level measurement signals, which are free from any drift and maintenance. A re-calibration is recommended only ones per year. And such reliable signals are the basis for a good and most efficient closed loop control. Only what is precisely measured can be precisely controlled. Make your mill most efficient with a permanent optimum filled ball mill chamber!
