A collection of experimental pieces I wrote in bizarre and complicated meters, with influence from Bulgarian folk music, Béla Bartók, Dave Brubeck, and many others. They're all written in a short ABA form. If you enjoyed these pieces, please subscribe for more music. Dance No. 1: 0:00 Originally composed in a normal 5/8 meter, the tongue-twistery nature of the melody led me to switch it to the unconventional 3 + 2 + 2 + 3. The A section is in G minor and features pentatonic melodies while the B section is more chaotic and written in a whole tone scale. Dance No. 2: 1:38 This piece features a 4 + 2 + 3 meter with a rhythmic ostinato. The A section features a melody which switches between the Phrygian mode and harmonic minor, while the B section develops the melody and uses the Dorian mode. Dance No. 3: 3:52 This piece was a bit of a challenge to see how complex of a meter I could write in. I chose the meter of the Sedi Donka, the most complex of all Bulgarian dances: 7 + 7 + 11. The A section is a sort of twist on a Bach prelude which gradually brings in the melody that the B section focuses on. Score download: https://imslp.org/wiki/Three_Dances_i...
