Does hip hop dance work with Baroque Music? The story of Breaking Bach

Discover the inspiring story behind Breaking Bach, the revolutionary dance project that combined hip hop dance with Baroque music. In 2023, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment partnered with choreographer Kim Brandstrup and North London's Acland Burghley School to create a dance piece that marries the rhythms of Bach with the movement of hip hop. Kim worked with students from the school and professional dancers Tommy Franzen and Deavion Brown to create a new work set to Bach's Concerto for Two Violins in D Minor. While skeptical at first, the students embraced the challenge of dancing to a new style of music and discovered a whole new world of movement along the way.
