Dr David Stuart - Faith and Health Conversations How do meaning, connection and community shape our health and wellbeing? In this conversation, Dr David Smart from the Action for Happiness Hub in Northamptonshire reflects on his experience as a GP and the importance of listening in healthcare. Drawing on research and cross-disciplinary discussions about the trajectory of human life — from birth to death — he explores how culture, relationships and purpose influence our mental and physical health. The discussion includes: • The impact of loneliness and isolation on wellbeing • Self-medication, addiction and lifestyle-related health challenges • Opportunities to promote wellbeing through giving, receiving, movement and awareness • The role of meaning and purpose in improving life expectancy • How faith communities contribute to thriving communities • The relationship between faith initiatives and social prescribing With around 90 faith communities active in Northamptonshire, this conversation also considers how churches and community organisations can collaborate more effectively — helping their work become more visible within local wellbeing networks. This includes creative models such as partnerships between gyms and churches, pointing towards new possibilities for whole-person care within communities. This video will be of interest to chaplains, NHS staff, community leaders and students exploring the intersection of health, wellbeing, meaning and community life. We invite you to reflect and join the conversation. #WholePersonCare #CommunityWellbeing #SocialPrescribing #FaithAndHealth #HealthcareChaplaincy
