From the end of May to the end of June, I rebuilt ALL of the existing tracks (except for the Oakland Wye) to account for two things: 1 - Distance - When I originally built the tracks, I intentionally made distances shorter due to problems that came up in Studio that no longer plague me. I was also not aware that Google Maps has a measure distance tool, and so all the distances were guesses. Additionally I released an update in mid-May changing the rail sounds to be different depending on car type (A1/B1/C1/C2, A2/B2, D/E) and dynamic based on track section type (Elevated, at-grade, underground). However, the short distances between stations meant that in several places (especially Lake Merritt - Bay Fair) it was hard getting to full speed before having to slow down again, which I knew was not accurate. Therefore I wanted to update the tracks. The new version of the map is based off of the measure distance tool, which I used to determine the length of straight sections (and the arc distance of certain curves). 2 - Placement of aerial structures - Just like with the tunnel sections, I wanted to add in all of the aerial structures. However, there were a few sections where I'd built the wrong track type (ballast where it should have been concrete or concrete where it should be ballast) and needed to replace it. In addition to new aerial structures, I also took the time to redo the tunnels for the Transbay Tube (they're very similar to the normal tunnels, just round instead of rectangular). I also decided to add the blue lights which indicate the location of an emergency phone in real life, resulting in an unexpected benefit in that the blue lights make it easier to gauge position in the tunnel relative to stations so it's easier to know when to start slowing down for stations. Apart from tunnel and aerial structure upgrades, I also added ground under the at-grade surface sections, and concrete under some of the trenched lines along the system as well, so the non-aerial sections weren't simply floating. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since I know many of you are going to ask, this is how I got George and Gracie, since The Wayback Machine's snapshot of the demo page doesn't generate anything new: I searched "Bell Labs TTS" and found this post ( / partially_lost_bell_labs_texttospeech_synt... ) in r/lostmedia looking for the engine behind the VOX announcer in Valve's Half Life game. Included in the description of that post was a link for a program called "Flextalk" (https://archive.org/details/flextalk) from the Internet Archive. Said program has the voices, though there are only two presets (and neither are exactly George and Gracie), and it takes some tweaking certain settings to get it to sound close. I can't get it to sound exactly the same. I haven't decided yet whether or not I want to commit to adding those announcements into Ro-Scale BART, since I don't have a system to determine how far away a train is from the station and how long it'll take to get there. Plus, with a low player count, it doesn't seem worth the effort to create a system for it that won't be seen. If I do add announcements, it will probably only be the approaching and boarding announcements. Game Link: https://www.roblox.com/games/34385541...
