RN salaries continue to climb each year for registered nurses. In addition, the Bureau of Labor Statistics is still projecting a 15% growth rate for RNs between years 2016-2026, which exceeds the average growth rate for all occupations. While the growth rate is down a couple of percentage points from 2015, the job outlook for registered nurses still looks great! In 2017, RNs earned an average salary of $73,550 per year in the United States. The average hourly wage for a registered nurse in 2017 was $35.36 per hour. Nurse income averages continue to grow each year, and many nurses are very excited to receive their first paycheck. If you’re a registered nurse, you might be thinking to yourself, “I earned way more than that!” or “I didn’t earn anywhere near that!” Why is that? The numbers above are only averages, meaning all of the salaries for registered nurses were added together and divided by the total number of nurses to determine the average salary and wage. The exact amount you make can vary based on a number of factors. One factor that can influence RN income is location. Here are some sample figures: RN salary in California: $102,700 RN salary in New York: $83,450 RN salary in Texas: $72,070 RN salary in Florida: $64,890 Before you move to California, remember that California also has the second highest cost of living in the United States, which will no doubt reduce those high earnings quite a bit.
