Here is a solid flow chart for fast accurate diagnosis. Tip 1-4 HAS to be is good integrity ALWAYS. As I worked on my personal craftsmanship when performing electrical repairs, I've found that it's just good practice to "maintain" these items 1-4 regardless. I previously would work backwards on this list to diagnose problems the fastest. I found that building steps 1-4 into muscle memory not only made me consistent when troubleshooting electrical problems, but improved the quality of my work. Here is my list. Repair or maintenance as you go. Think: clean connections and dielectric grease connections! Electrical diagnosis Checklist: 1. Battery testing (load tested!) 2. Ground Verification 3. Locate Wire Diagram (This is a real time saver) 4. Fuse Inspection 5. Test for Power to component connector (vehicle side of harness) 6. Test for component Ground 7.
