Hello viewers, this is Dr. Ravati Ramaswami from Apollo Hospital, Secunderabad. You all must have heard of hysteroscopy, which means visualizing the inside of the uterus using a very tiny telescope. It is commonly done for people with excessive bleeding, reduced bleeding, pregnancy issues, infertility, and repeated abortions, among other reasons. The advantage of hysteroscopy is that, unlike in the past, we can now directly see inside the uterus using advanced equipment. Not only can we visualize the uterine cavity, but we can also remove small growths like polyps and fibroids, which often cause heavy bleeding. We can also identify and treat adhesions—bands that stick the uterine walls together—leading to reduced menstrual flow. These adhesions can be released to restore the normal uterine cavity. In some women, a congenital condition may cause a wall (septum) that divides the uterus into two, which can be diagnosed and corrected during hysteroscopy. Additionally, in cases of repeated abortions, adhesions or inflammation may be identified, and sometimes even conditions like tuberculosis can be detected inside the uterus. Hysteroscopy is a highly beneficial tool that, in some cases, can even prevent major surgeries like hysterectomy in older women. I encourage you to consider and utilize this advanced technique.
