sqadia.com provides ophthalmology lectures online for international ophthalmology students. In corneal diseases main focus of this lecture is Abnormalities of Corneal Transparency. Dr. Hina Khan also explains in detail the grading of corneal neovascularization and microcystic corneal edema. ▬ 📌 Abnormalities of Corneal Transparency A normal cornea is a transparent structure. Any condition that upsets its anatomy or physiology causes a loss of its transparency to some degree. Common causes of loss of corneal transparency are explained as well. Corneal Edema is the swelling of the cornea following ocular surgery, trauma, infection, inflammation as well as a secondary result of various ocular diseases. Corneal edema can also occur following over-wear of certain types of contact lenses. Raised intraocular pressure, Endothelial damage, and Epithelial damage are the three main causes of corneal edema. Clinical features along with the treatment are also explained here. The word ‘corneal opacification’ means loss of normal transparency of the cornea, which can occur in many conditions. Therefore, the term ‘corneal opacity’ is used particularly for the loss of transparency of the cornea due to scarring. Its causes involve Congenital opacities may occur as developmental anomalies or following birth trauma, healed corneal wounds, and Healed corneal ulcers. Moreover, corneal opacity clinical features and corneal opacity types are explained. Keratoplasty provides good visual results in uncomplicated cases with corneal opacities, where optical iridectomy is not of much use. Corneal vascularisation interferes with corneal transparency and occasionally may be a source of irritation. Moreover, Corneal vascularization types, pathogenesis along with clinic-etiological features and treatment are discussed. The pathogenesis of corneal neovascularization is still not clear. It is presumed that mechanical and chemical factors play a role. Clinically, corneal vascularization may be superficial or deep. ▬ 🎬 5500+ sqadia.com Medical Videos ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ 👩🏻⚕️ Accessible Medical Student Education 24/7/365 💡 Simplifying Medical Learning 💪 Study Hard, Dream Big, Achieve More
