Ahmedabad is making a bold bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games (CWG), taking advantage of its ongoing infrastructure development and growing sports culture. The Gujarat government has already started laying the groundwork for this major event, with plans for world-class venues in both Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. A high-level presentation was recently held at the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), where Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) President Chris Jenkins, alongside officials from the Athletics Federation of India, was briefed about the city's vision. It was revealed that the formal Expression of Interest (EoI) for Ahmedabad's CWG bid is expected to be submitted by March 2025. In addition to the CWG bid, Ahmedabad is also gearing up for other major sports events, and the region is focused on creating a legacy of top-tier sports infrastructure. This includes new stadiums, training facilities, and improved transportation networks to support large-scale events. With these efforts, Ahmedabad is positioning itself as a prominent sports destination, with aspirations to host even bigger events in the future, such as the 2036 Olympics.
