https://www.commtank.com/services/com... CommTank provided an underground tank upgrade service for Herb Chamber’s Somerville dealership. The project included the removal of a 2,500-gallon regular unleaded gasoline and a 2,500-gallon diesel Underground Storage Tank (UST). The USTs were replaced with a 11,000-gallon dual compartment gasoline tank. The new UST was a Xerxes double wall fiberglass capable of storing 7,000-gallons of gasoline and 4,000-gallons of diesel fuel in each compartment. The project also included the replacement of one fuel dispenser with a Wayne Select Series model, a Veeder Root ™ TLS 300C system and a TopKat Fuel Management System. CommTank crews started the project by removing the existing dispenser and broke up the concrete pad above the buried USTs. Two single-wall fiberglass underground tanks were removed from the site and brought to a recycling yard. The tank graves where then prepared for the new USTs by installing steel shoring, adding a crushed stone base and placing concrete dead men to use as anchors. A Xerxes double-wall fiberglass USTs was delivered and installed. The excavation and tanks were backfilled with pea stone gravel before the crew re-tested the underground tanks for tightness. Fiberglass sumps and a 5-gallon spill bucket were installed along with the gas dispenser sump. Double wall fuel lines were installed to connect the fiberglass tank to the dispenser. CommTank crews installed crushed stone over the UST which provided a solid base for the new tank pad that was installed on top of the Xerxes tank. A frame with rebar grids was constructed and leveled by CommTank crews before adding concrete to the form. A non-skid surface and drain grooves were added to the cement top. Wires were run through piping newly installed electrical conduit to the Veeder-Root TLS 350 system. The new Wayne Select Series gasoline and diesel pump was primed and tested before placing it in operation.
