ABOUT He has played with the greatest jazz legends and now can rightly be called a member of that elite company. For many decades, Stanley Clarke has been one of the best and most innovative bassists in the world. The 63-year-old American has composed many movie and television scores, introduced the traditional double bass onto the rock scene and has flirted with styles like pop, R&B and even classical music throughout his long career. Yet jazz has always been the first love of the quadruple Grammy winner. At North Sea Jazz Clarke and his band will mostly present work from his latest, swinging album Up (2014). On it he plays both the acoustic and electric bass and drummer Stewart Copeland, of The Police, as well as Chick Corea both performed on it. Recording his twenty-first studio album was ‘nothing but fun,’ according to Clarke. He will undoubtedly show the same energy on the stage in Rotterdam. Welcome to the official North Sea Jazz Archive!
