On January 1st, 2025, Greater Manchester was struck by unprecedented flooding, prompting Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service to declare a major incident. This video takes you inside the intense response as emergency crews from across the region race against time to rescue residents, protect properties, and mitigate the damage caused by rising floodwaters. As calls for help pour in, multiple fire appliances and specialist units are mobilized. Crews are seen responding to life-risk situations in Timperley, as well as working to manage the rapidly rising River Mersey in Didsbury. The river soon bursts its banks, flooding Palatine Road and surrounding areas, trapping over 400 people, including residents in the Britannia Country House Hotel. Throughout the day, fire engines from Warrington, Lymm, Penketh, and Cheshire race to respond to widespread flooding. In Platt Bridge, Wigan, flood levels continue to rise throughout the morning, leading to severe flooding in both houses and on roadways. This causes major disruption and leaves many residents stranded in their homes. Meanwhile, in Warrington, five fire appliances are sent to Southworth Avenue, where 61 people are trapped in their homes and 87 properties are affected by the floodwaters. Emergency services, including Greater Manchester Police and multiple rescue units, work together to evacuate those affected and provide critical assistance to residents. In Didsbury, emergency services continue to evacuate residents from multiple locations, including a multi-story hotel and surrounding blocks of flats. Water Incident Units, command support units, and additional technical rescue teams are called in to help, with over 450 people successfully evacuated. Senior fire officers also take charge of the growing response, coordinating efforts with Greater Manchester Police and the HART (Hazardous Area Response Team) from Croxteth, Liverpool. The scale of the response is further demonstrated as mutual aid is requested from West Yorkshire, with a Water Rescue Unit arriving from Rastrick to assist with specialized boats. As night falls, over 445 people are evacuated from the Britannia Hotel using powered inflatable boats, navigating hazardous floodwaters filled with contaminants. As floodwaters begin to recede, the aftermath of the crisis continues, with property damage reported throughout Didsbury and Stockport. Emergency crews focus on recovery efforts, cleaning up affected areas and assisting residents in the long process of rebuilding. This video showcases the resilience and professionalism of fire crews, police, medical teams, and volunteers working together to face one of the most severe flooding events in recent history. The bravery, teamwork, and strategic coordination of all involved highlights the dedication to saving lives and protecting communities in times of crisis. ---------------------| Contact Us |--------------------- Website: https://www.firephotos.co.uk Facebook: / firephotosuk Twitter: / fire_photos Email: [email protected]
