This is the reality of a “super-aging society,” a difficult problem that many areas of Japan are struggling with. Teshima Island is a small island off the coast of Japan in the Seto Inland Sea. There are only 800 people living on this island, and on Teshima, there are many elderly people who hope to die soon. Uta-san, a nurse who works at the only clinic in the island, supports them. How does she stay close to the elderly people? With what thoughts and words does she build relationships with them? We spent a year following Uta-san and the elderly people of Teshima Island to hear about their lives.
