International Organ Improvisation Competition Haarlem 1953 The International Organ Improvisation Competition Haarlem (Dutch: Internationaal Orgelimprovisatieconcours Haarlem) is a music competition for organ improvisation that has been held since 1951 as part of the International Organ Festival in the Dutch city of Haarlem. It is the oldest European competition of its kind. Applicants must send their audio recordings of given tasks to the organiser in advance. After a pre-selection process, eight participants are invited to Haarlem to perform their skills in several rounds of the competition in front of a prominent international jury. The venue for the music competition is traditionally the St Bavo Church in Haarlem with its famous large organ, which was built in 1738 by the German-Dutch organ builder Christian Müller. Here you can listen to three competition finalists from 1953: Anton Heiller (A), Karl Richter (D) and Peet Kee (NL), who won first prize that year and in the two following years. 00:00 Themes 01:28 Anton Heiller 15:39 Karl Richter 31:25 Piet Kee Recordings from ncrv (Nederlandse Christelijke Radio Vereniging) Listen to more music • Anton Heiller • Improvisations Disclaimer: I do not own the rights to this music, so any request from the rights holders will be met by me taking the video down.
