Barley Straw Pond Treatment - Will it clear your pond water? In this video I share when I added barley straw to my pond to treat the water. I was told that Barley straw can help control algae. My results were inconclusive. I think it may have helped, but the pond did not clear up too much. The barley straw eventually sunk and I had to fish it out of my pond. When I took it out it had a sulphur type smell to it. Perhaps it cleaned the pond a bit, but I could not say that with any degree of certainty.
