CBSE class 10 Science - Heredity and Evolution - In human beings, the sex of new born is determined genetically, but in some animals, sex is determined on the environmental conditions. Number of chromosomes in humans = 46 23 comes from male parent and 23 comes from female parent, so there are 23 pair of chromosomes in which 22 are perfectly paired and one pair of chromosome is sex chromosome. The sex chromosomes are perfectly paired in females and have both X chromosomes whereas in males it is XY chromosome which is not perfectly paired. So through punnet square we will find out there are 50% chance of a female progeny and 50% chance of male progeny.
