Here we share our experiences of visiting mysterious Shiva temple Shri Baijnath Dham situated in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh near Palampur. Baijnath temple is one of the main attractions of Palampur in Himachal Pradesh. Baijnath Dham temple is about 16 kms away from Palampur city. There are many stories and beliefs related to Baijnath temple. According to the legends, Pandavas started the construction of Baijnath temple during their exile in Dwapar Yuga but they could not complete it. And later in 1204, two merchants named Ahuka and Manyuka built the Baijnath temple. According to a popular legend, Ravana, the king of Lanka, was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. And in order to become world victorious Lord Shiva appeared and asked Ravana to ask for a boon. When Ravana wanted to take Lord Shiva with him, Lord Shiva took the form of a linga and placed a condition. Do not place the Shivling on the ground anywhere before reaching Lanka. On the way, Ravana wanted to rest and explained everything to a farmer and gave Shivling. But due to the glory of Lord Shiva, the Shivling became so heavy that the farmer put the Shivling down and forever the Shivling was attached to the ground there. And at this place the Baijnath temple was built. It is said that the festival of Dushera not celebrated in Baijnath and it is done in honor of Ravana's devotion to Lord Shiva. Beautiful artworks have been done on the walls of this temple. Shlokas is written everywhere. Idols of many deities have been made in this temple. Baijnath Temple is famous for its architecture.
