One of the most distinguished issues in the history of the modern Republic of Türkiye is the ignorance of some segments of society, preventing them from joining social and public life. The understanding that embraced and welcomed people from various religions, ethnicities and cultures for centuries in the Ottoman Empire left its place to an order that suppressed people of other cultures that did not fit into patterns, together with the policies of so-called uniformization applied after the Republic. Until the mid-2000s, Alevis were one of the groups that experienced this neglect in Turkish society most harshly. During the AK Party era after 2001, Alevis were officially addressed by the state for the first time and all the wounds inflicted in the past began to heal.
