Scottish accordion dance music or ceilidh music. A 6 x 16 set of Scottish 2/4 Marches for a lively Gay Gordons dance. I recorded this set for the Aberdeen branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society's online Burn Supper in 2021. I was introduced to these tunes by my accordion teacher, the late Alastair Hunter, when I was a teenager. He was a lovely person and a great influence on my music. I still have many of his handwritten tune sets that I enjoy playing. He was from Oban originally and lived in Aberdeen so you could say he had the best of both traditional Scottish styles in one, where east meets west. A fiddler once told me, east is beast, but the west is best. Some people are heavily biased, of course, I like it all! The three tunes are: The Piper's Cave: (trad) by James Sutherland (1865-1946) a pipe major of the 5th Royal Scots (T.F.) Queens, Edinburgh. Mairi's Wedding: (trad) also known as the Lewis Bridal song, this was originally a Gaelic folk song written by John Roderick Bannerman (1865-1938) for a Mary C. MacNiven on the occasion of her winning a gold medal at the National Mòd in 1934.
