This book takes place after the Revenge of the Sith and before New Hope. At this time the Empire is thriving but throughout the galaxy small rebel groups are beginning to form and fight back against the Empire. Thrawn, a Chiss from the unknown regions of the galaxy has been discovered on a outer rim Imperial planet and has been assigned by the Emperor to undergo Imperial naval training in order to serve the Empire. A few questions remain though. Who is Thrawn, why did he willingly join the Empire and is he truly loyal to the Empire?
