This Quranic declaration establishes a specific geographical anchor for the Ark's final landing. Classical commentators like Al-Tabari identify al-Judi as a known mountain in the region of Mesopotamia (Al-Jazirah), near modern-day Mosul. Tafsir Ibn Kathir elaborates on its significance, explaining that the Ark's resting was a fulfilment of Allah's decree and that the mountain itself was preserved as a sign and a lesson for future generations. This event symbolizes the ultimate safety granted to the believers after a period of immense trial, representing the triumph of divine mercy and the beginning of a new chapter for humanity. The ninth century Persian geographer Ibn Khordadbeh identified the location of mount Judi as being in the land of Kurds (Al-Akrad), and the Abbasid historian Al-Mas'udi recorded that the spot where it came to rest could be seen in his time. Al-Mas'udi also said that the Ark began its voyage at Kufa in central Iraq, and sailed to Makkah, where it circled the Ka’abh, before finally travelling to Judi. Yaqut al-Hamawi, also known as Al-Rumi, placed the mountain "above Jazirat ibn Umar, to the east of the Tigris," and mentioned a mosque built by Nuh (A) that could be seen in his day, and the traveller Ibn Battuta passed by the mountain in the 14th century.
