"Shadows Across Generations" at the Shanghai Tides Grand Hotel | Photographer Chin Pei (CHINpp)

Captured at the Tides Grand Hotel in Shanghai, a luxurious seaside hotel that has been abandoned for a decade. I extensively employed a technique similar to Walker Evans' "straightforward, even lighting," lacking excessive visual impact, to calmly portray a segment of time and space eroded by the passage of years. From an aesthetic standpoint, this can be considered poetic documentary photography. Through an abundance of localized details and negative space, I aimed to convey the ineffable "poetry" and encourage viewers to imagine the extended scope, thus enhancing the enduring quality of the artwork. I hope that viewers can perceive another dimension within these images and explore the inner world. Shooting slowly and maintaining a keen awareness and understanding of the "environment" are essential to infuse photography with warmth and depth. 拍摄于上海海潮大酒店，一个已经废弃十年的豪华海边酒店。我大量使用了类似 Walker Evans 的’正面平光拍摄’，没有太多视觉冲击力，平淡地展现被时间侵蚀的一段时空。从美学价值来看，这是诗意纪实摄影。我通过大量的局部细节，画面留白来展现不可言喻的“诗意’，以及让观者想象范围的延伸，以此造就了作品的耐读性。 希望大家可以从画面里感知到另一个时空，去探索内在世界。 缓慢地拍摄，并且一定要保持对‘环境'的关心与了解，才能让摄影作品更加充满温度。
