Today we’ll be continuing with The French Revolution (Part 2) by Oversimplified. If you haven’t seen Part 1 yet, I highly recommend watching that first — I’ll include a link down in the description. I’ll also link to the original video so you can check out and support Oversimplified’s incredible work directly. Starting today, I’ll be doing Oversimplified Saturdays, continuing with their Napoleonic videos next week. In addition, we’ve launched French Fridays, where I’m reacting to Epic History TV’s in-depth Napoleonic series — the first episode, covering the Siege of Toulon, went live yesterday. If you’re interested in France’s revolutionary and Napoleonic periods, it’s a great time to follow along. Now, as I’ve said before, French history isn’t my strongest area, but I’ll do my best to add context and perspective — particularly on topics like famine, food shortages, and how ordinary people endured the chaos of revolution. Oversimplified’s videos are excellent at distilling complex events, and I’ll be filling in some historical details and side notes along the way, especially where the simplified presentation can use a bit more grounding. We’ll trace the final collapse of the French monarchy, the rise of radical factions, the Reign of Terror, and the early emergence of Napoleon. I’ll also be discussing the role of Enlightenment thought, the Deist movements like the Cult of Reason and the Cult of the Supreme Being, and how ideas of liberty and equality transformed — and often contradicted — themselves during this turbulent decade.
