Cleveland Clinic is expanding the use of artificial intelligence technology designed to help doctors identify sepsis earlier, rolling out the system to more hospitals across Ohio and Florida this year. The health system has been testing Bayesian Health's AI platform at thirteen of its hospitals and plans to implement the technology more widely based on encouraging results from pilot programs. Sepsis occurs when the body's immune system overreacts to an infection, potentially leading to organ failure and death. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that at least 1.7 million adults in the United States develop sepsis annually, making it a leading cause of hospital deaths. "Artificial intelligence is demonstrating the ability to support clinicians and improve patient outcomes," said Dr. Rohit Chandra, Chief Digital Officer at Cleveland Clinic. "This innovative platform has the potential to help healthcare providers identify complicated conditions such as sepsis earlier by providing real-time insights that are embedded directly into workflows." The AI system integrates with electronic medical records and analyzes laboratory results, vital signs, and clinical notes in real time to assess whether patients might be developing sepsis. Unlike traditional detection methods that rely on standard criteria, the AI platform can process large amounts of data simultaneously. Read: https://www.wkyc.com/article/news/hea...
