SOUNDBITE: (English) Pierre Lesquilier, President of the Commission for the Relations with the European Union at the French National Assembly: "It is a very humouristic, very funny publicity about tourism in Poland. And it has had a big success because it is funny but it is also serious. It is a response to a certain number of sentences which had been produced by the people who were for the NO during the campaign." 9. Cutaway 10. SOUNDBITE: (French) Pierre Lesquilier, President of the Commission for the Relations with the European Union at the French National Assembly: " The funny thing is the slogan, which is indeed quite amusing, because it attacks, in a humorous way, the slogans that were used during the European campaign by the people in favour of the 'No', and which were xenophobic." 11. Various of Adamski STORYLINE: The Polish Tourism board kicked off a new campaign in France on Tuesday, featuring the infamous Polish plumber, in an attempt to counter negative French rhetoric about eastern European workers. The "Polish plumber" - a symbol of cheap labour - became a catchphrase of the French "No" camp during the referendum on the EU constitution. Now the Polish Tourism Board is using the character to allay French fears, and hoping to attract visitors at the same time. Posters of 21 year old model Piotr Adamski, will be splashed over the country, with a slogan reading "I am staying in Poland, come visit." Pierre Lesquilier, the French president of the commission for the relations with the EU at the National Assembly, believes the campaign will be successful because it is 'funny but serious'. "The funny thing is the slogan, which is indeed quite amusing, because it attacks, in a humouristic way, the slogans that were used during the European campaign by the people in favour of the NO, and which were xenophobic," Lesquilier said. The campaign has launched Adamski to overnight success, with French media fighting to get their chance to meet him. "It is the first time I have played this part, at such a high level. I hope that everything will go well. In fact, I hope that I give a positive image of Poland," said the model.
