Slipped my pedal on the start which dearly cost me. It was completely my own fault, I was in an easier gear then I should have been facing the start climb and I should have just planed to downshift. I got caught up in that throng on the stairs and while I was pleasantly surprised that I was in a way better physical spot to power when we hit the first pavement section it wasn't enough to make up for my shortcomings in the descending. I will say that I got more and more comfortable as I progressed through the four laps and by the last one was in a much better state of mind to get myself down a long rutted slippery mucky hill. So I walked away from this one happy I made some progress even if it's a bummer that I have to actually be racing to make the progress. Where I live there is hardly any rain (made apparent by the tragic and devastating fire a mile from my home the day before this race) and when we do have rain you will be publicly shamed and ostracized if you ride anything that's wet because it ruins the trails. So while Colorado is great for mountain biking, you don't learn much in the way of handling when conditions are slick. Happy New Years! 🎉
