Perfect Backhand Slice in 3 Steps - Perfect Tennis (episode 8) How to hit a perfect backhand slice in three steps. This lesson is episode 8 of our perfect tennis series. In tis video, Coach Simon Konov of Top Tennis Training will show you how to hit a perfect backhand slice in tennis. The Grip: The foundation of any stroke is the way you hold the racket, your grip. For the backhand slice, we recommend using a continental grip, the same grip you serve with and hit volleys with. Step One: Preparation. This means that you'll need to change into the ideal grip, and at the same time, start the racket preparation. Get an early shoulder turn and lift the racket head above the grip in the prep phase. Step Two: Reaching a perfect power position. Focus on getting your racket head above your right shoulder (for right handers) and bend the elbow to about a 90 degree angle. The non hitting hand is holding the throat of the racket, and your chin is resting above the shoulder. Step Three: Contact and finish. Try to make contact in front of your body, and focus on finishing the slice using a down and across the body swing path.
