Between 1924 and '38, Dave Macon waxed at least 206 78 sides. adapted from 2002 CD notes: Uncle Dave Macon was a successful recording artist and travelling entertainer even before he became a star of the Grand Ole Opry in the late 1920s. Born in Warren County, Tennessee in 1870, Macon grew up absorbing the traditions of Southern folk song, both Black and White. As a teenager he lived in Nashville, where his parents operated a hotel that catered to vaudeville and circus performers--another important influence and source of material. He made a living hauling freight by mule-drawn wagon until the age of fifty, then carved out a stellar career in Show Business. Uncle Dave was a fount of 19th Century song, a homespun comedian, and a tireless entertainer--on stage, on record, and on the air. "Uncle Dave's Beloved Solo" is a charming display piece that shows off Macon's considerable skill on the banjo.
