Within Slovakia are the largest source of precious opals on the continent. These opals originated approximately 10 million years ago on the southern flank of a dying volcano. This video will discuss how these opals formed, the difference between common and precious opal, and what colors the modern opals occur in. Disclaimer: I am being paid to make this video by the European Union and NS Kožare as part of a series meant to share several wonderful geologic features within the nation of Slovakia.
