Pino Suárez Avenue is an important thoroughfare located in the center of the city. It bears the name of the Mexican politician and revolutionary José María Pino Suárez, who was vice president of Mexico from 1911 to 1913. This avenue has witnessed various historical events and has become an emblematic landmark of the city. Avenida Pino Suárez has never been just any street, in its beginnings it was the continuation of Calzada Iztapalapa, the one through which the Spanish entered Tenochtitlán to meet with Moctezuma in 1519. On Avenida Pino Suarez we can also find the Temple of Jesús Nazareno, part of the old Hospital de Jesús Nazareno from 1524, which was the first clinic founded in America. In this space rest the remains of Hernán Cortés (lost for 150 years) and the famous mural Apocalypse, painted by José Clemente Orozco from Guadalajara.
