Join us on a journey to the heart of Africa, where we spent one week with the Saharawi people in the refugee camps near Tindouf, in southwestern Algeria. For nearly 50 years, this resilient community has lived in exile — driven from their homeland by conflict and colonial legacy, and surviving in one of the harshest environments on earth. Despite the unforgiving desert and decades of political limbo, the Saharawi people continue their unwavering struggle for self-determination. Their story is not only one of resistance and resilience, but also of progress — especially in the remarkable emancipation of women, who are at the forefront of community leadership, education, and political organization. Through their voices, we discovered the strength it takes to sustain hope over generations, and the unbreakable spirit behind a people still walking the long road to freedom.
