Another experiment about using a cardboard box for composting. From deliveries, I get a lot of cardboard boxes (they have mostly stopped using plastic packets, which is good). Typically, I shred them and use them in compost, but they make for some small compost makers in themselves (an experiment). I have kitchen waste from fruit feels and the like, so I take this cardboard box, make holes along the side, leave one side open, and put a layer of waste paper and shredded cardboard as a bottom layer (this will absorb some of the leachate, but only initially). And when watering the plant, and with rain, water will soak the cardboard and cause it to eventually break apart (there is no reuse of this as a compost container). The idea is that with this kind of open space, microbe access and so on, it will become like compost in around 6-7 weeks and hopefully the cardboard box should remain intact till that time.
