To put the cherry on top of my first airshow outside of the UK, I treated myself to a flight in a stunning PBY-5A Catalina flying boat. The flight was approximately half an hour and included a low approach with the wingtip floats deployed over a nearby lake soon after take-off. After take-off, we were able to move around and explore the aircraft whilst sitting in the different seats The one that had the longest queue was the bomb aimer window in the nose under the feet of the pilots and the second most popular view would have been the bubbles at the rear. As seen in the landing, you can actually see where you're going from the back which makes it a bit more interesting to just seeing a wing like you would with pretty much every other aircraft! Shame that the windows were a bit dirty but the aircraft had been making many flights each day for the last week or so. Nonetheless, shouldn't complain about having the opportunity to fly in a vintage aeroplane anyway! The Catalina was built by Consolidated in the 1930's and were in service with many countries, though most notably served with various US, UK and Canadian Armed Forces through World War Two. The Canadian forces' Cats were known as 'Cansos', and actually, this airframe is a Canso but painted in US livery.
