New Kelani Extradosed Bridge | Docudrama by JICA SriLanka | Production Agency - TekGeeks

With the opening of the expressway from the internantional airport to the commercial capital of Colombo, the trafic congestion increased at the bridge across the Kelani river and intersection at Peliyagoda. In addition to the Airport, the intersection is used by cargo and passenger traffic to and from the Colombo Port, and travellers to key tourist destinations in northern and central parts of the country. The new bridge will extend southwards from Colombo-Katunayake Expressway, and divide towards port access road and Baseline road. The bridge is designed as an extradosed bridge, such that no piers need to be constructed on the river bed. This will minimize any impact to the water-flow and ecological balance.
