Joshes video • Taking New York to Benezette trail riding Our overlanding trip to Benezette, Pennsylvania turned into one of the most unforgettable adventures we’ve ever had. What started as a simple weekend getaway into Elk Country quickly became a full-on exploration of abandoned history, rugged trails, wild weather, and the kind of moments you only get when you’re deep in the PA Wilds. We kicked off the trip by diving into something totally unexpected: an old nuclear bunker hidden in the forest. Wandering through cold concrete hallways and rusty blast doors felt like stepping back in time — eerie, quiet, and absolutely awesome. It's one of those rare places that instantly makes you wonder who built it, what it was used for, and why it’s still sitting out there slowly being reclaimed by nature. From there, we continued deeper into the backroads until we found a remote waterfall tucked away off the trail. The sound of rushing water echoing through the trees was the perfect break before setting up camp. Moments like that are why we love overlanding — the combination of exploration, nature, and the freedom to find places most people never see. But the real adventure hit later that night. Just after sunset, a huge thunderstorm rolled through Benezette. The sky lit up with lightning, wind tore through the trees, and rain hammered the tents for hours. It was one of those storms you feel in your chest. We hunkered down, listened to the thunder crack across the mountains, and trusted our setup to survive the chaos. Thankfully, our diesel heaters were absolute lifesavers. While the storm cooled the air fast, the heaters kept us warm, dry, and comfortable through the entire night. Nothing beats sitting inside your tent listening to the roar of a storm while staying cozy. The next morning, the forest was soaked, foggy, and incredibly peaceful — like waking up in a completely different world. We wrapped up the trip with a few more backroads, some elk sightings, and that unbeatable feeling of completing a truly wild weekend.
