2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE 4-Door Coupe - The fastest family car we've ever tested! A plug-in hybrid like no other! Written by: Michael Banovsky | Added info by: Nauman Farooq It pains some of us here at Automotive Affairs to admit it, but one of the world’s fastest and most exclusive Mercedes-AMG models… is also a plug-in hybrid. Yes, its 2.9 seconds 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration (we actually managed a 2.66 second run to 100 kph) will melt your face off, and the usual mix of Mercedes luxury with AMG performance parts makes this a very special place to be — but it will do all of those things while giving roughly 10 km of all-electric range. Just enough to sneak out for a nighttime drive, then. STYLING: Mercedes-AMG calls it a ‘coupe’, and the GT 63 S can trace its lineage back to the now-classic, groundbreaking, banana-shaped CLS “four-door coupe”. Perhaps not the most subtle car in this very bright ‘MANUFAKTUR Spectral Blue MAGNO’ paint finish, but certainly noticeable as one of the more special, and modern Mercedes-AMG colours. (An ‘AMG Stealth’ package gives the blacked-out look of an aftermarket vinyl-wrapped car from 2014, lol!) INTERIOR: Most of this car’s additional $30,000+ in options are for the interior, including: Premium Rear Seating package ($3,700), Comfort Package ($2,850), Driver Assistance package ($2,700), Burmester High End 3D Surround Sound System ($7,020), AMG Matte carbon fibre trim ($3,750), MANUFAKTUR Deep White / Black Exclusive Nappa leather seats with diamond stitching ($3,050), Static panorama roof ($2,500), and AMG Performance steering wheel ($1,150). In short... it's a nice place to spend time in, enveloped in all these pricey luxury items! POWERTRAIN: We hope you’re sitting down. This car has 831 horsepower and a combined torque output of 1,084 lb-ft. Its top speed is limited to 317 km/h (196 mph). Its acceleration is prodigious, thanks to its AMG-developed 201-hp "permanently excited synchronous motor" (PSM) with two-speed gearbox and electronic limited-slip differential, giving full torque from a standstill. HYBRID: Over the rear drive unit is a 6.1-kWh ‘ultra-lightweight high-performance battery’, offering 150-kW peak discharge, direct cooling of the 400-volt battery's 560 individual cells, and a total weight under 90 kg (198 lbs). PERFORMANCE: Electric-only range is approximately 10 km, if you drive gingerly. If you drive like we do, assume 0-100 km/h in 2.6 seconds, and a (governed) top speed of 317 km/h. DRIVING DYNAMICS: Numbers are one thing, how the car performs often tells a different story! This one, however, was as exciting to drive, as the numbers suggest. This is a rocketship of a car, ready to catapult you to the horizon at the twitch of your toe. Thanks to its ever ready hybrid system, the reaction time is bonkers, and the ease with which it keeps gathering speed is jaw dropping. We've not driven a Bugatti Veyron or the Chiron, but we'd bet they don't feel much different than this! If you enjoy driving, this is the car for you. FUEL ECONOMY: We achieved a combined rating of 15.7 L/100 km (15 U.S. mpg) over a week of testing. Stated range is 14.1 L/100 km highway (16.6 U.S. mpg), 11.7 L/100 km city (20.1 U.S. mpg), 13.1 L/100 km combined (17.9 U.S. mpg). PRICE: All of this doesn’t come cheap, and in Canada, a car like this one when optioned out costs $255,245. Base price for this car is $214,500. VERDICT: No body needs a car this fast, to haul their family around in, but we're glad the option is available! In a world of mad cars, this AMG GT63 S E Performance V8 BiTurbo four-door coupe is one of the maddest ever made.
