They have lived for thousands of years as symbols of forests. In 2000, the Forestry Agency selected giant trees having a diameter of one meter or more in Japan’s national forests, naming them ""100 Giants of the Forest"" to preserve them as assets for following generations. I composed this piece to pay respect to Japan, a country with forests, and to predecessors who maintained those forests. The opening image is looking up at a huge tree in a deep forest. Glittering sunlight shines through the leaves of trees, and the song gradually moves into a world of fantasy.(Yuichi Abe)
