"I don't like my vision with these lenses."    • Lens replacement or lens exchange in young...   Most of the patients that undergo lens replacement or cataract surgery are 45 years old or older. Many are in their 70’s and 80’s. But there are some younger patients that undergo cataract surgery and receive multifocal lens implants. Most do well. But some do not. One of our patients this week agreed to share her story with you…. She received odyssey multifocal lens implants in 2024 in Florida for treatment of her congenital cataracts. She did not like the quality of vision through her odyssey lenses. She underwent YAG laser capsulotomy and still did not like the quality of vision through her odyssey multifocal lenses. She wanted to have her multifocal lenses removed through intraocular lens exchange (after YAG capsulotomy) and receive a monofocal lens to make her near-sighted. We have treated younger patients with congenital cataracts successfully with multifocal lenses. Some patients however will not like their quality of vision and choose to have intraocular lens exchange with a monofocal. In her case, we placed the bausch and lomb LI61AO monofocal and she ended up very happy with her vision.
