It's not the big, bad tactical blade I thought it'd be but it's a high performing utility blade that pretty much rocks. Hailing from Italy from Fox Cutlery, the Extreme Lite Carry or ELC marketed by Wilson Combat is a win. And unlike a lot of their blades, this one is actually affordable at around $110 to $130. It has a twin as well: the Fox Cutlery "Fox Gunhammer" which in 2011 was listed on their USA website. Both are nearly identical except the WC version is stamped with their logo, features the tougher DLC blade coating (versus the Teflon coating for the Gunhammer), and comes with a cool paracord lanyard that's useful. Like the still-impressive 2550 and 940 Benchmade blades I intro with, the WC ELC is a perfectly sized EDC knife This makes is suitable to wide ranging cutting chores and also an easy-to-carry companion. Also in many ways, just like those BM blades, the ELC knife is greater than the sum of its parts. . It's gives pride of ownership and is a cool choice for daily carry (2nd kind of cool). The 3.2" drop point blade is mostly ground flat and has excellent belly and precise tip. It cuts and slices well and passed my cardboard stabbing tests with flying colors. The ELC comes out of the box with an unimpressive edge but some simple hand ceramic rod sharpening produces a scary edge fast. The N60Co steal impressed me in testing (discussed): good edge retention though tough cardboard tests, sharpened readily, and it has excellent corrosion resistance. Other upsides include: comfortable aggressively textured G10 handle with good form and a deep choil (and no sharp transitions/corners), hardened stainless liners that are milled out (somewhat), a 6061 aluminum backspacer, a reversible blackened clip, fully ambidextrous thumbstuds which are perfect in shape (lefties rejoice), perfect blade centering, adequate in-handle retention, an excellent run of jimping on the short thumbramp, smooth and fast deployment, and a very solid lockup. The clip is thin but seems adequately strong and carries deep and thankfully tip up. Primary POU will be daily utility knife (EDC) and perhaps emergency defensive use. Its liner lock, though surprisingly thin, seems strong and locks consistently and tight. Carry weight, though not "extreme lite" is good at 3.8 oz considering the comfort the thicker G10 handle provides (the aluminum backspacer and thicker G10 scales do add some weight). Value is good especially if your ELC is scored with a discount; I prefer the Wilson Combat version due to the name association, the included lanyard, and the tough and slick DLC coating. Only time can prove the greatness of a knife design but the Wilson Combat ELC (Fox Gunhammer) has most of the makings of another TNP Hall of Famer. //////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 9 out of 10 ///////////////////Music licensed to TNP from Derek Audette
