The line between Sarajevo and Ploce, a southern port town in neighbouring Croatia, had been closed since 1992. The link restores Bosnia's rail access to the Adriatic coast. Bosnian President Aliya Izetbegovic, Prime Minister Hasan Muratovic, other Bosnian government officials and foreign diplomats boarded the first five-coach train to Ploce.
