Derek Degg had served in the Royal Navy for more than 20 years when he was sent to the Falkland Islands aboard HMS Yarmouth in 1982. Heading up a First Aid team, he was among the first to offer help to both HMS Sheffield and HMS Ardent when they were hit by Argentinian bombs during the conflict. Please take a few minutes to listen to Derek’s first-hand account of his role in the 74-day battle where 255 British servicemen lost their lives. If you’d like to support Falklands veterans like Derek, please play the Veterans’ Lottery. Thank you. The Veterans’ Foundation was founded in 2016 and is one of the most important funders of armed forces charities in the UK. Since the beginning, it has given over £35 million in donations to more than 500 different charitable institutions. The projects it helps to fund are life-changing, and life-preserving, which is why the Veterans’ Foundation has become one of the most highly-regarded veterans' charities in the UK. The Veterans’ Foundation supports schemes that combat homelessness, mental well-being and post-traumatic stress. The charity also funds projects that help former soldiers to retrain for civilian life; it aids veterans in recovering from physical injury; and the charity also helps bereaved forces children and youngsters of those in service.
