Derek Degg had served in the Royal Navy for more than 20 years when he was sent to the Falkland Islands aboard HMS Yarmouth in 1982. Heading up a First Aid team, he was among the first to offer help to both HMS Sheffield and HMS Ardent when they were hit by Argentinian bombs during the conflict.
