"This building tells the story of the last century and a half of a people's long fight for freedom." Fyfe Robertson reports from Kilmainham Gaol, on the outskirts of Dublin. The building has been closed since 1924, but is now being restored by an army of volunteers. Among the volunteers is Seamus Brennan, now the secretary of the Kilmainham Gaol Restoration Committee, who is a former inmate of the Gaol. Brennan was held in Kilmainham, awaiting execution following the 1916 Easter Rising, he recalls hearing the executions of Padraig Pearse and James Connolly from his cell.
