The Waimalu Meadow

Music: Composure by B. Fleischmann On Wednesday, March 6th 2013, I embarked on the best hike of my life. This would be the second time I would ever summit the Waimalu Meadow and what made it so memorable was having such an excellent crew of friends and strong hikers to accompany me on this adventure to share the beauty of the Waimalu meadow. Our crew set off from the top of Ka'ahumanu Street at the base of the gated community then crossed over the top of the KST, after reaching the top of Waiau ridge, in order to make it over to the Waimalu meadow. The Waimalu meadow is a large grassy meadow which sits atop the Ko'olau summit. Although many similar meadows can be found throughout the Ko'olau, none rival the Waimalu meadow in size, remoteness, and pure beauty. It is a place often described as surreal, otherworldly, beautiful, awesome, and so much more. After spending 2.5 hours at the meadow we finally descended down into Waimalu Valley via the Waimalu Middle Ridge. From here we rested and played in a crystal clear freshwater pond and then ventured out of the valley through the Waimalu ditch trail where we met back up with one of our trucks sitting up top Kaonohi Street.
