Email Abby Eagle from https://www.abbyeagle.com Values determine every decision that you make. The values hierarchy explains why people do what they do. Eliciting values helps you to understand not just other people but yourself - and can help you to improve your relationships, reduce conflict and get your life on track to greater levels of success. Learn how to Elicit Values & Map Meaning Using NLP. In this Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) tutorial I am going to show you how to elicit values using the NLP methodology. What are values? A value is a concept, a thought, a belief that we hold in mind, that has meaning for us - it has value - it is valuable. Values are what you move towards and away-from. Values are about necessity and possibility. Tony Robbins says they are like a compass that directs your life. Values motivate and demotivate, and they justify behaviour. Every decision you make is based upon a values hierarchy. For example someone might say: "I did it because I needed the money. Or, I did it because I was in love. Or, I wanted to make a difference in the world." Values are organised in hierarchies, with the most abstract ones having the greatest influence. For example, spirituality is more abstract than family, which in turn is more abstract than money. Values like 'money' tend to be 'means values' in that they help you to achieve higher and more meaningful values. Values are usually expressed as a nominalisation. For example words like, power, money, prestige, education, family, health. Sometimes values may be expressed as a phrase as in, 'helping people', or 'challenging everything for the truth'. A difference in values has been, and is and probably always will be a major cause of conflict in the world. And even when we may agree on a value there will nearly always be some disagreement on the meaning of the value and the conditions that need to be met to fulfill the value. However by learning how to elicit and work with values we can begin to understand what is important to others and why they do what they do? In doing so we can begin a process of mapping out the structure of peace and reconciliation throughout the world. CHECK THESE LINKS 1.
