20,000 years ago or so, a volcanic crater formed in this location. It eventually opened up on the ocean side and formed a series of barrier coral reefs. It is a "must do" trip on a visit to Oahu but requires some planning. Access is very limited to protect the natural habitat. it costs $25 to get a ticket into this park, they must be purchased two days in advance, and they sell out in 5 minutes. Apologies for the poor quality of the fish videos - I shot them with the GoPro in a Ziplok baggie, which began to leak immediately. In February, the water can be surprisingly chilly so there is not much time before you have to get out and warm up a bit. I only scratched the surface, you can go out to the extended reef and see fish as big as you are! Great place for beauty shots...
